Yes I Can!

The chant “Yes We Can” by Obama supporters can be heard at all his campaign stops. It’s an uplifting statement and encourages a positive outlook.

“Yes I Can” should be the attitude of those dealing with acquired brain injury. It’s extremely important to keep a positive attitude even though there are many times you don’t feel that way. Thinking positively can motivate you to accomplish goals you’ve set for yourself. When doubt creeps in, just saying “Yes I Can” out loud can produce amazing results of personal encouragement.

Expecting success can actually unloose those creative juices (right brain). You might even surprise yourself while finding a part of your brain you never paid much attention to before the brain injury. In a way, it’s like solving a puzzle. Ask yourself, “How can I best use my knowledge and talents as I strive to be successful?

Having a “Yes I Can” attitude rather than a negative one is really a personal choice. Sometimes it takes figuring out “How I Can”, but it’s that positive approach that counts. The measure of success differs from one person to another depending on their current abilities, but no matter where you are on the overall ability scale, your personal best is to be celebrated. And remember – Never Give Up!

Life is a shipwreck but we must not forget to sing in the lifeboats. ~Voltaire
