A Fresh Start after Brain Injury

Well, the time has finally arrived to select the next President of the United States of America. If the right man for the job is elected, our country will have a man in the White House who will put us on the road to a fresh start. We can all take a deep breath and look forward with hope and anticipation of better things to come. A fresh start after brain injury can be viewed in much the same way.

Yes, there is a mountain of problems to overcome or go around. But, a slow, steady approach to addressing those challenges, can lead to a rewarding and fulfilling life after brain injury. It’s primarily an attitude thing. Problems are easier solved with a positive attitude rather than a negative one.

Communication is also key to a fresh start after brain injury. We can look to Senator Obama’s campaign organization and communication as an example. The press spoke of his campaign’s ability to stay organized and communicate effectively to the general population of the country. It’s a great example of working smart and using current technology, along with the basics, to get his message to the people. The brain injury survivor must learn to communicate effectively. That will mean using compensatory strategies effectively relative to the particular brain injury.

Our new president will need the support of his staff and others to be successful in leading the country in the right direction. The brain injury survivor will need a support team while developing the strategies most effective for them. They will need at least one person they can lean on in the tougher times. Never underestimate the importance of a good support infrastructure. It can mean the difference between winning and losing the battle with brain injury.
