This week I want to mention an effect of brain injury that isn’t talked about very much. We know that everything we do, everything we say and everything we are resides in our brains, and that includes sex. You and I both know that sexual problems are fairly common among the general population for any number of reasons. Now, however, I want you to add an injured brain into the mix.
Short term memory problems cause cognitive problems. Frontal lobe issues include making decisions about having sex and also may not filter sexual thoughts. Unfiltered sexual thoughts can lead to numerous other problems, some of which are legal issues. What about the decision making? An injured brain may not be able to make a decision to have sex. In other words there may be no desire whatsoever.
Rather than me going into a long discussion about this, I want to refer you to a recent article Larry wrote and posted on our Brain Injury Online website: Sexual Dysfunction and Sexual Performance.
The need for Understanding?
