Fall is in the air and I had a tremendous day yesterday. It was one of those days where everything seemed to go right. As a brain injury survivor, there are plenty of days that do not go that way. But, yesterday, for me, it did.
We were off to our grandson’s football game mid-morning. It was a beautiful fall day, no one was injured, and PURPLE WILDCATS WON! After the game, we went home to watch the Razorbacks play Ole Miss. That was one thing that didn’t go so well – but it was a good game except for the way it ended. Actually before it was over I decided to some shopping for a pair of boots and then visit my dad who has been in the hospital this week. (I was listening to the game on the radio as I drove.)
I had only gone to this new shoe store once and Larry was driving. Even though I had previously made notes about how to get there, I was a little nervous since it was in an area of the city I was unfamiliar with and had always been a bit confusing to me since I don’t go there often. But, as I said earlier, I was having a better than average day and I felt confident I could handle it. I drove right to it and found the perfect pair of boots at a fantastic price thanks to a friend who had given me a $20 off coupon which turned into $40 when the clerk ran it though twice and gave me the extra $20 off. Like I said, I had a tremendous day yesterday.
So now it was time to head out to the hospital to visit my dad. I knew I could backtrack and get my bearings, but my confidence was up and I decided to precede the other direction even though I was unsure of where I was going. Side note: on a not so good brain injury day, that would never happen.
As luck (or confidence) would have it, the road I was on led me where I thought it might and it was an easy trip to the hospital. When I arrived, I made a note of where I parked – it’s a brain injury strategy. Then I went in to see my dad. The next fantastic thing that happened that day was that my mom told me the procedure went great and my dad should be free from back pain as a result. I had a wonderful visit with the two of them.
Driving home I thought of what a great day I was having even with brain injury. It really boosted my confidence and days like that are few and far between. Now, just because you’re feeling confident doesn’t mean you’ll win when you purchase a lottery ticket. I know because I bought five and didn’t win.
Oh well, it was a super brain injury day anyway!
