Today I’m linking to an article on our Brain Injury Online website – Learning to Live with the Cycle of Response because I have been doing a lot of that lately. This site was started to help others living with brain injury so I wanted to emphasize the importance of this knowledge.
I referred to this cycle many times during the days and weeks during my dad’s illness and eventual death. Knowing this cycle and how it works helped me tremendously during this time.
My most recent challenge has to do with Internet access from home with the new Laptop I was issued at the office. Of course there is no comparing these two circumstances except for the fact that this knowledge was helpful in coping with both. I know this latest challenge will eventually be resolved, but for now it’s pretty frustrating. That's where having the knowledge of the Cycle of Response comes in really handy.
These are only a couple of examples of when I have relied on the Cycle of Response. Believe me, it is a handy tool to have available to you after an acquired brain injury. Knowledge is Power – understanding what is happening, what comes next, and how to back up is some very useful information. Then you decide which direction you need to go from there.
Hopefully, if you find yourself in a difficult situation you will determine where you are on the Cycle of Response and take the appropriate action.
